too
cheap to get it fixed, too
frugal to (
no!) get a new car, so whenever
Rochester, his manservant, fired it up, it would be a set-piece on the show, with
Mel Blanc handling the assorted
noises of a car on the last legs of its nasty and brutish
existence.
Maxwell-Chalmers was a marriage of two early US auto
manufacturers; they became Chrysler (named for its CEO) in 1925.
