Science Fiction short story by
Julian Huxley.
* * * 1/2
Scientist-explorers in
Africa encounter an unknown tribe. They settle down to study it, using their various specialties (the narrator's is cultivating
tissue cultures).
Watch as the practices of the explorers turn into
religious practices for the members of the tribe.
"The Tissue-Culture King" appears to be one of the first Science Fiction stories in which the science of
Biology played an important part in the plot.
First appeared in
Amazing Stories in
1927. I found it in
James Gunn's
anthology The Road to Science Fiction.
