Timo Maas has been around for quite a while now as a producer and a DJ, delivering a predominantly dark and techy (or, as he like to call it, "wet and hard") style of dance music. He's done many singles and remixes, and he has released a couple of mix CD's, but it is only recently that he released Loud, his first full-length artist album.

Mr. Maas got his start in the early 80's DJ'ing for friends' house parties and worked his way up to spin at big commercial clubs in his hometown in Germany. His big breakthrough, though, occurred while he was a resident DJ at Hamburg, Germany club The Tunnel, when he collaborated with Gary D., another resident there to produce an "aggressive trance" track entitled "Die Herdplatte" in 1995. This led to his signing on with Hope Recordings and spinning all over Europe.

After the release of "Die Herdplatte", Timo Maas went on to apprentice at Peppermint Jam Studios, where he learned "everything from recording to distribution". He continued to release records, but his next big breakthrough was the release of the track "Mama Konda" under the pseudonym "Orinoko" in 1997. A standard for all the big DJ's from Sasha to David Morales, it was his first track to enter the top 20 club charts in the U.K. and the U.S.

Timo has done many singles and remixes since then, and has also within the last two years released two mix albums, Music for the Maases and Connected. Then, last month he released Loud, his first full-length artist album. It is generally representative of his dark and techy style, switching off between four-to-the-floor and breakbeat tracks. A notable exception, though, is "To Get Down", the first single off the album, which has a very happy, upbeat groove to it in the vein of Fatboy Slim (who, incidentally, does a remix for the single) or Daft Punk.

I initially had a mostly complete discography & remixography here; E2 seemed to choke on the 18.5K writeup, though, so I have to move those to separate nodes. His album discography is here, though.
