Pioneer BBC children's television programme, originally produced from 1966-69 but repeated frequently after that in the Watch with Mother series, which ran till 1980.
Trumpton, its predecessor Camberwick Green and the follow-up Chigley were all created, produced and written by Gordon Murray, and depicted the harmless trials and tribulations of a little town peopled by simple wooden puppets with round heads. Trumpton began with a clock: "This is the clock, the Trumpton clock, telling the time, never too quickly, never too slowly: telling the time for Trumpton." Its major characters were Captain Flack and his crew of firemen (Pugh, Pugh, Barney McGrew, Cuthbert, Dibble, Grubb), the annoying Mrs Lovelace with her yappy little dogs, the Mayor, and the Town Clerk, Mr. Troop.
The band Half Man Half Biscuit did a couple of tribute tracks: 'The Trumpton Riots' and a wicked parody of the train-driver's song, 'Time Flies By..'
