British based loudspeaker manufacturers, founded in Yorkshire 1932 by Gilbert Briggs. During WW2 the company produced military equipment but soon returned to making speakers in 1945.
In 1958 the company was sold off to Rank. Since then Wharfdale has bought several other British hi-fi companies including Mission, Cyrus, and Quad.
Recently Wharfedale have been working on a joint project with the British Defence Research Agency which resulted in the creation of flat panel speakers, now sold under the brand name of NXT
