Romeo, Oh Romeo, Wherefor art thou, Romeo?
I'm down here!
How many times have you seen this bad parody
(Or a variation thereof)? It really annoys me. Wherefor doesn't mean where.
. (Questioning word)-(Purpose). "For what reason is this?"
And so, "Romeo, Oh Romeo, Wherefor art thou Romeo? Would not a rose by any other name smell as sweet?"
Why are you Romeo? Why does your name matter that much? It's just a name
, you'd be the same person no matter what you were called...
If "wherefor" did mean "where", the whole flow of the narrative is destroyed - "Romeo, where are you? By the way, it doesn't matter what you're called".
Doesn't work, does it?
