The basic-32 series is the training you must go through (accompanied by a physical test) to become certified for participating in prescribed burns (or fighting wildfire in general). The series covers such basics as driptorch and polaski use, safety including the use of fire shelters, suppression methods, and briefly covers fire behavior, fire weather, fire regimes, etc. Often, the class is associated with a small practice burn so people can get a feel for what its like to be out on a fireline.
