Bikewashing is a variant of greenwashing in which a business or government purports to be bicycle friendly

This may be accomplished as subtly as placing a person riding a bike in an advert for banking or presenting the mayor of a town with a bicycle or even showing a person mountain biking to sell an SUV.

Perhaps the most egregious offender in the case of bikewashing would be the AAA auto group which has worked with the League of American Bicyclists on share the road campaigns while at the same time spending money to make roadways less bike friendly.

The term bikewashing was coined by Elly Blue of the blog Taking the Lane.
