A subdivision of acoustics, catacoustics is the study of how sound reflects.

There is an informal scale for how a space will react acoustically to sound: a live space will reflect a lot of sound, while a dead room will reflect almost none. For example, an open field will be almost totally dead, while a well-designed cathedral is likely to be quite live. Most recording studios are engineered to be dead space so that recording engineers can add the right amount of reverb to the recording electronically.

Also, a term for an ecoute.
