Originally a misspelling of cubicle, it became the combination of cubicle and domicile signifying that one often feels as if one is living in their cube. Evil, nasty, sterile places that cubes can be - this is not a good thing. The phonetic addition of the syle part at the end gives it an even more ominous ring.
