In the game of
bridge, the player who first named the
suit of the
winning bid from among the two in the
partnership winning the bid. His partner is the
Dummy who lays his hand open on the table, and Declarer plays both his own
hand and Dummy's.
In bridge columns in newspapers, South is always Declarer and North is always Dummy, regardless of the direction players were sitting when the hand was originally played, if it's even a real hand at all.
