verb

To permanently remove claws. Often done to cats, dogs, and other housepets in order to stop them from destroying furniture.

This procedure should only be done by veterinarians while the animal is under general anesthesia. It's not recommended for older animals, as they may miss their claws and become depressed, or lose mobility as they are not accustomed to walking without them.
