A simple sugar with six carbon atoms. Most sugars found in food are hexose sugars. Examples of hexose sugars are fructose, galactose, glucose and mannose.

Any member of a group of sugars containing six carbon atoms in the molecule. Some are widely distributed in nature, esp. in ripe fruits.
