Kinoo suupa de tomato o kaimashita.
Yesterday at the supermarket we bought tomatoes.
It can also be used in the sense of inviting disaster
or a mishap, much as in English. Don't confuse this kau with the other kau, which means "raise" or "keep", as in animals or livestock or pets.
The first meaning is written ka(u), with the kanji for "buy". The second is written ka(u), with the kanji for "raise" (incorporates the "eat" radical).
