A strange phenomenon best illustrated by a series of
USENET posts archived at the
Critiques of Libertarianism site. One poster quoted
Marx, who was in turn quoting
Adam Smith -- unbeknownst to the rest of the audience. A Smith devotee proceeded to attack what he thought was a Marxian critique of
invisible hand. The original poster revealed his trickery, and
good fun was had by all (except for the one who made a
fool out of himself.)
Also illustrated by the relentless attacks made upon
Murray Bookchin by the Bey/Zerzan crowd, for he acknowledged the cogency of much of the contribution of Marx. Bookchin, a
Marxist? What!?
In a pig's eye he is! Sooner
George Will a Marxist than Bookchin.
Folks, if you're not familiar with anything beyond
The Communist Manifesto, it's intellectually dishonest to pretend otherwise. I'm certainly not a Marxist, but I'm not a knee-jerk anti-Marxist, either.
