reagent is the ingredient that, if there were more of it, the reaction would be able to continue.
For example, if you're making peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwiches, and you've got a 55-gallon drum of peanut butter, a 55-gallon drum of jelly, and one loaf of bread, the bread is the limiting reagent.
