Methylamine is a simple primary amine with chemical formula CH5N. In its gaseous form it is noxious and somewhat explosive, so it is usually found in hydrochloride salt or aqueous solution form.

It is used in photography, taxidermy, and is a precursor for methamphetamine, MDMA, and other drugs. Methylamine can be synthesized a number of ways, a common one is the Hofmann rearrangement, in which acetamide is used.
