negative symptom n. <neg-a-tiv simp-tum> {
psychology}
A
negative symptom in
schizophrenia is a
lack of what would be considered "
normal"
behaviour. Lack of
emotion,
meaning in their
words, and so on.
Contrast this with a
positive symptom, which is the
presence of "
abnormal"
behaviour.
Examples:
Flat affect,
poverty of speech.
