Italian for "Roman step". A marching style introduced in 1938 and ordered by Mussolini to be adopted by all Italian troops.
Despite the name, chosen with Il Duce's traditional sense of theatre, historians generally note that the style "turned out to be little more than a Latin goose-step."1
