The first and so far only novel by Quebecois writer Nelly Arcan. Published in 2001, the book describes in fairly intricate detail the life and experience of a prostitute in contemporary North America.
The book is written in deeply self-exploratory prose, is highly personal, and stylistically recalls Jack Kerouac or David Foster Wallace -- principally in the pages-long run-on sentences. The book has done fairly well in France where the contrast between the earthy subject matter and the high-art writing style went over well.
