The genus for a group of pretty little monocots in the family Iridaceae. They are commonly called the blue-eyed grasses. There are about 100 different species, most of which are found in the Americas. Many species of Sisyrinchium are endemics. The flowers generally consist of 6 perianth parts and range from purple to yellow to almost white. The rest of the plant is grass-like, hence the common name.
