stoep

Afrikaans (and South African English) word for a verandah (covered or uncovered) stretching along the front of a house, and occasionally wrapping around the sides. Ideally there are a couple of steps leading up to it, and indeed the word is derived from the Dutch for "step".

A Dutch noun (pronounced "stoop"), meaning the step in front of one's front door (not very common today), or (by extension), the section of sidewalk in front of one's own house.

It sure would be nice to have some cross-language dictionaries autonoded.
