James Brown's band, from roughly 1970 to 1973. It included Bobby Byrd (his "I Know You Got Soul" - later sampled by everyone, even your mama - was a typical JB's groove), Fred Wesley, and Maceo Parker (see: The Horny Horns) from the old band (many of the rest having mutinied) and some "child labor" stolen from Hank Ballard's touring group, like the Collins brothers (Catfish and Bootsy). Many of these people left as well, eventually joining Funkadelic.
