(Named for a lancet, a small, double-edged surgical blade)
Reputable British medical weekly, published in London since 1823 (and thus, one of the world's oldest medical periodicals). The Lancet was founded by the British physician Thomas Wakley (1795-1862), and has maintained very high standards ever since its first issue.
Today, The Lancet is one of the most cited and prestigious medical periodicals in the world, and having an article in The Lancet is a mark of distinction for medical researchers.
