An
audio effect that allows a sound to be
shortened or
lengthened without altering its
pitch. It is pretty much the opposite of
pitch shifting. Imagine turning a '
tone' knob on a piece of audio equipment without the sound becoming higher or lower. A program like
FruityLoops has time stretching utilities, is also a feature on many samplers.
A good example of this is
Let's Take The Fresh Step Together, the first song on the
Trans Am album
Red Line. The song itself is simply a portion of
The Microsoft Sound, which has been stretched to over fifty seconds long.
