The uterine cry (also spelled cri, from French) is the sound heard at the end of a D&C (dilation and curettage), when the endometrium or uterine lining has been completely removed and the curette is scraping the myometrium or uterine muscle.

I used to work in a Family Practice/Internal Medicine clinic in Yongsan, Korea. We had a fair amount of female patients with dysfunctional uterine bleeding, and a D&C is sometimes performed to try to prevent further bleeding if hormone therapy doesn't work.

This sound sends shivers down the spine of anyone unlucky enough to possess an uterus who hears it. It's a sort of "skreeeek" and just listening to it causes sympathetic cramps, at least in me.
