The
pilcrow (¶) was originally an
editor's or
proofreader's
mark
to indicate that a new paragraph should begin at a certain position.
Its usage hasn't changed much.
Today it most frequently appears in word processors as a way of displaying
the end of a paragraph on screen, and in some HTML editors as a way of
displaying <P> without deviating too far from WYSIWYG.
