The German city of Augsburg gets it's name from Augustus Caesar, who founded it in 15 BC. It became a major commerical and financial center by the 1500's. In particular, it was home to banker Jakob Fugger, who financed the Habsburg Emperors. Fugger is most remembered for building the Fuggerei, the original housing project. Today, Augsburg is the third largest city in Bavaria, behind Munich and Nuremberg.
