Primary revision is a
psychoanalytical term used to describe the process of creating
latent content so the
unconscious can
shield a person from direct feelings or problems during a
dream.
The primary revision is made up of two parts:
condensation- which takes several feelings or experiences and places them in one actor or symbol in the dream in order to keep them obscure.
displacement- is the placing of a neutral or positive actor or symbol in a dream where a negitive actor or symbol should be.
After the unconscious has revised the dream using primary revision, you are left with the manifest content or the dream you actually "see".
