Peter Dursin of Earth is the real name of Porcupine Pete. Two origins
exist for Pete. One is that he was cursed by a 5th dimensional imp,
similar to Mr. Mxyzptlk, the Superman villain, to have his body
covered in quills. The other origin is that Pete is, in fact, a
mutant who was born covered in quills. No matter which is true, Pete
tried out for the Legion of Super-Heroes under the name
Porcupine Pete. Pete demonstrated his ability to project the
quills at will. The demonstration was less than a complete success
due to Pete's lack of control and accuracy, and so his application
was rejected.
Pete became a member of the Legion of Substitute Heroes.
