A small
liberal arts woman's college located in
Winston-Salem, NC,
in historic
Old Salem. The school is largely
unknown to most
Winston-Salem residents. School buildings and dorms are mixed in with
the
touristy old
church and
Moravian sugar cookie shop.
For some at Wake Forest University, Salem College provides a nearby
refuge and a steady source of female companionship.
An outdoor stage near the center of campus, lined with tall trees,
rises at a steep angle for more than fifty feet. The arts building
faces a paved parking lot, and then a mass of Moravian graves.
The campus's wood lattice fencing, thousands of trees,
and quaint colonial feel make the campus feel comfortable--rustic--beautiful.
