This is pretty cool stuff... literally. You get liquid oxygen (a.k.a.
LOX) when you cool oxygen down below -183.0 degrees Celcius (atmospheric pressure). This is pretty close to the boiling point of
liquid nitrogen. Usually liquid oxygen is obtained by fractional cryogenic
distillation of air.
It is very easy to light a grill with LOX, when you pour some of it on the charcoal briquettes. In fact, it is an easy way to vaporize your grill in a matter of minutes. Someone named George Goble has received the 1996 Ig Nobel Prize in chemistry for this concept.
