The Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead was remade by The
Crash Test Dummies in 1994, presumably for the movie
Dumb and Dumber, whose soundtrack also sported
The Primitives' remix of their own
Crash and a disturbing version of
Donovan's
Hurdy Gurdy Man, sung by the
Butthole Surfers.
Of note concerning
The Ballad is that it marks the first widespread Crash Test Dummies release that features
Ellen Reid on lead vocal rather than
Brad Roberts' trademark bass-like voice. Also, for reasons unknown, the Dummies eliminated the verse concerning
empty churches and
shopping malls.
