Erma Bombeck's
1976 humor book about moving from the
city to the
suburbs and getting used to life there in the Frankly Fake section of the Suburbian Gems subdivision. The sixth best
nonfiction seller of
1976, still
funny and only mildly dated.
In the book, Erma's editor sees the proposed title of the book and says, "Is that really true?" Erma responds, "Haven't you enjoyed the salad at our house?" (According to "Marshall Brain's How Stuff Works," it really is true that plants grow better over the septic tank's drain field.)
Also a 1978 TV movie based on the book, with Carol Burnett and Charles Grodin.
