quintet usually composed of two
violins, two
violas, and a
cello. This configuration was most notably used by
Mozart,
Beethoven,
Mendelssohn and
Brahms.
Schubert's Quintet in C, op. 163 used an alternate configuration of two violins, a viola, and two cellos.
