One of the four points of the compass, the others being North, East and West.
South is right if you are facing East, left if you are facing West, behind you if you are facing North.
It is away from the North pole. Down where Antarctica, Australia, South America and part of Africa are. The South pole is in Antarctica.
For some reason the North pole is seen as the top of the world and the South pole as the bottom.
