Irish poet who died in 1889. He worked as the
editor of Fraser's Magazine until a decade prior to his
death and published several books of
poetry about the Irish
landscape and
folklore. His circle of friends included
Alfred Lord Tennyson and Dante Rossetti (
Christina Rossetti's brother).
He made a particular effort to include children as his audience and is perhaps best known for his poem The Fairies.
