One of the Books I reread at every new stage in my life.An out of print biography of a man named Victor Herman. He followed his father from Detroit to Russia in 1931 to the Ford factory there. Then he jumped from a plane, the longest freefall. He was called the Lindberg of Russia. When they came to mark it in the records books, he refused to be entered as a Russian, insisting he was an American. For this he was incarcerated in a gulag, exiled to Siberia and spent 45 years saying that he was an American, that he was alive. After 45 years, he makes it home
