This famous country song was written by Tammy Wynette and Billy Sherrill. Tammy's version is the one with which most folks are familiar.
The biggest uproar surrounding the song was during the 60 Minutes episode in the 1992 campaign season with Bill and Hillary Clinton when Hillary made the statement (concerning Bill's tendency to screw everything in sight, except perhaps the shrubbery) that she was no, "Tammy Wynette, stand by your man, kind of wife." (Sorry if the quote is not exactly correct, but the meaning is clear.) She later had to bake some cookies and take them out to the press corps as a sign that she had learned her place as the little lady. That was one hilarious moment in political history.
