In a town like thisYou could never be quite sure what was
coming through or going out. There was a lot of freedom due to the desire for creativity, though also some level of apprehension about just what would come out of that creativity.
If anyone had taken a survey, they would've found that
the percentage of mad scientists was slowly increasing. Perhaps
it was something in the culture or the rain. We couldn't be sure.
It was no longer considered
a part of America. It had moved so far off the deep end. But it was considered a valuable part of the country nonetheless. Like the black sheep nobody wanted to admit was in the family, yet
you couldn't help but watch everything they did.
And it was
becoming increasingly wilder and more innovative. We feared it would reach
some sort of escape velocity and leave the rest of the country far behind.
