Major League baseball team from 1901 to 1954, when they moved to Kansas City. Managed by Connie Mack for nearly its entire existence, this club captured nine American League pennants and won five World Series. Some famous Philadephia Athletics were first baseman Jimmie Foxx, pitcher Lefty Grove, and outfielder Al Simmons. The Athletics played in Philadephia's Shibe Park.
