AKA
asparagus beans,
snake beans or
yard long green beans. Long beans resemble
string beans, but are more flexible, less sweet, and are around eight to eighteen inches long, though they are capable of growing up to 3 feet long. They are used in the cuisine of many different
Asian countries, including
India,
China,
Malaysia, and the
Philippines, where they are most often cut into two-inch lengths and used in
stews and
stir-frys.
Long beans are thought to have originated in Africa and are more closely related to black-eyed peas than to green beans.
