As Billy Bob Thornton's character says in the film Monster's Ball, a monster's ball was a party thrown for a prisoner on death row in England, in their days of capital punishment.

Monster's Ball is a deeply moving Lion's Gate film starring Billy Bob Thornton and Halle Berry. Halle Berry won an oscar for her performance, and personally I thought the rest of the cast performed with equal precision, tension, and power. This is not a film about happy people. This is not a film which one can sit through without feeling emotion of one kind or another. This is a film which will make one question the relevance of their own existence. This is a film which makes one ask themself if anything actually matters. The beauty of the film is you walk out of the theatre answering "yes" to those questions. See this film.
