A
barrel or tub made from thick wooden staves formed into a tapered body. Generally used for making
miso-paste or
pickles. The taru is sometimes altered and used by certain
traditional Japanese groups instead of normal
Taiko drums. Wooden
mallets are used to produce sound from the barrels.
