And we all know how well the SMB protocol held up when they tried to make it internet-compatible...

For those that don't: Microsoft stated that SMB was powerful enough to handle FTP-like file serving responsibilities. So they ran their internet file servers off it. It, of course, died horribly.

On another tack, this looks to be more Halloween document stuff. Microsoft here probably plans to make this protocol a commodity, and closed, so that us non-microsoft people can't use it.

Anyone seen microsoft.net? Tell me... Will removing the Microsoft OS division disrupt that at all?
