ゆりかもめ
The Yurikamome (yoo-ree-kah-mo-may) is a fully automated
railway that opened in
1995. It connects central
Tokyo to
Odaiba, a newly-developed
artificial island in
Tokyo Bay, across
the Rainbow Bridge. It starts at
Shinbashi and ends at
Ariake, a 12km, 24-minute run. Fares range from ¥180 to ¥370, depending on how far you're going.
A number of attractions are located along the Yurikamome line, including the Ariake Colosseum, Fuji TV studios, Aqua City, the Venus Fort shopping mall, and Palette Town, an amusement park with the world's largest Ferris wheel. Many upscale hotels are scattered around the Yurikamome as well.

The Shinbashi end connects to the
Yamanote Line/
Tokaido Line and the
Tokyo subway's
Ginza Line and
Mita Line. The Ariake end connects to the
Tokyo Waterfront Railway's
Rinkai Line.
Yurikamome is also the Japanese name for the black-headed gull.
