Synopsis of a modern event that is the leading cause of fatalities on board commercial jet mass transport. Video training is available from the Flight Safety Foundation: CFIT: Awareness and Prevention
CFIT was attached to the 28th November 1979 Mount Erebus aircrash in Antarctica after investigation. 257 tourists were killed when their New Zealand-based DC-10 followed an inaccurate navigational device directly into the side of the volcano above McMurdo Station. A big steel cross marks the location today.
