Nowadays we can obtain photometry
of
elliptical galaxies with the aid
of
CCD cameras.
This is much more accurate than using a simple photometer
as the reading is discritised across the
CCD chip. Light from neighbouring stars
can be removed from the image and the
light flux from the galaxy calculated
more accuratly.
