Spending much of his time in Paris, France and London, England, this Italian mathematician is better know for stealing precious books from libraries and selling them on the open market than for his actual mathematical ability.

His four volume work on the history if Italian mathematics Histoire des sciences mathématique en Italie was written in French and appeared between 1838 and 1841 when he was living in Paris. He also published on the mathematics of heat.
