I fall asleep quickly
after, or
so she says
But I wake before she does
always,
moving off the bed
to watch her dimly lit movements
She smothers her pillow,
her back arching and falling
waves that roll onto shore before breaking, and
the way she rubs one foot against her opposite leg
the music of a mute cricket
.
